MAES – Latinos in Science and Engineering: STEM Pipeline Programs
The MAES pipeline makes a positive impact in the Latino community through its pre-college, college, and professional programs. These programs provide critical STEM exposure to our youth and offer our members with valuable professional and leadership training that prepares them to make a positive impact in our Nation’s STEM workforce. We also provide our members with hands-on leadership experience, by providing them exciting leadership opportunities at the local and national level.
Our entire pipeline is designed to synergistically support the achievement of our organizations objectives.
Mission
To promote, cultivate, and advance representation of Latino leadership and education in STEM.
Vision
MAES is recognized as a prominent organization for its development and contributions towards the success of Latino leaders in STEM.
Objectives
Objective 1: Latino engineers and scientists are key contributors to America’s pursuit of global STEM Leadership.
- Objective 1a: Latino families encourage, drive, and support their children to pursue opportunities in STEM. (Family)
- Objective 1b: Latino students graduate high school with academic skills necessary to pursue higher education in STEM. (Pre-College)
- Objective 1c: Latino undergraduate and graduate students are technically accomplished, socially responsible and capable leaders within their stem fields. (College)
- Objective 1d: Latino STEM professionals are globally competitive at every level of technical and managerial leadership. (Professional)
Objective 2: Socially responsible Latino engineers and scientists advocate for increased resources and involvement in STEM. (Advocacy)
MAES Leadership Academy (MLA)
The MAES Leadership Academy is an intensive program of leadership training. The MAES Leadership Academy is designed to provide the leaders of student chapters with training to develop their leadership skills and emotional intelligence.

Chapter Development Summits (CDS)
The Chapter Development Summits are regional events focused exclusively on bringing together the elected officers of neighboring student chapters to strengthen chapter governance. By bringing together several neighboring chapters it provides a venue for the sharing of best practices, and foster communication and collaboration across the chapters, and strengthen the support and bond across students and professionals.

Science Extravaganza (SE)
Science Extravaganza is a hands-on STEM enrichment experience for middle and high school students. The national goal of Science Extravaganzas is to create awareness of STEM among pre-college students, especially among Latino communities.

FIRST
The First Program has provided excellent opportunities for Professional and Student to work with pre-college members of our Latino community. MAES Chapters support FIRST programs by serving as mentors and volunteers.

MAES Bravo Awards
- Medalla de Oro Award– The Medalla de Oro seeks to recognize individuals who have demonstrated outstanding technical and educational innovation, have made significant contributions to science and/or engineer, have along history of supporting the mission and vision of MAES as well as personal involvement in the development, operation, and growth of MAES, its membership, and its chapters. The Medalla de Oro is the highest award presented by MAES to an individual.
- Medalla de Plata Award – The Medalla de Plata seeks to recognize students who have demonstrated outstanding technical and educational accomplishments and have made significant contributions to the achievement of the MAES mission. The Medalla de Plata is the highest award presented by MAES to its student membership.

MAES Scholarships
The MAES Scholarship Program was established to increase the number of Latino students completing their higher education goals and are awarded to student members in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Scholarship applications are selected by a panel of professional MAES’ members and are evaluated on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, leadership, community service, and personal merits. Scholarship Categories: Graduate Scholarship, Founders Scholarship, Presidential Scholarship, and General Scholarships.

The 2024-2025 MAES Scholarship Program will be opening in February of 2025. All applicants must be registered MAES Members. Stay tuned for more information!
