Science ExtravaganzaSM (SE) is a nationwide program focused on promoting STEM fields. It is a one day event with hands-on STEM workshops given by volunteer professionals in related fields.  The Science Extravaganza  hosted at San Jose State University (SJSU) is celebrating its 20th Anniversary. The SE in the San Francisco Bay Area targets 6th-9th grade students in under-performing schools, underrepresented groups, and schools without STEM programs. Since 1999, the SE at SJSU has held an extremely successful event that has hosted over 8,000 students encouraging them to pursue careers in STEM.

In preparation for each Science Extravaganza, the committees consisting of volunteers visit schools and demonstrate workshops to expose students to the science, technology, engineering, and mathematical fields.  For the 2018 Science Extravaganza at SJSU, 60 classrooms were visited by volunteers, engaging with over 2,000 students and opening the doors to STEM. This year at least 350 students are expected to attend the 2019 Science Extravaganza and over 100 volunteers will participate.

Science Extravaganza is a program and service mark of Latinos in Science and Engineering (MAES) (501(c)3).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
