MAES Announces Professional Chapter of The Year Award for 2012

Houston, Texas (September 18, 2012) MAES proudly announces the MAES Boston Professional Chapter as its 2012 Professional Chapter of the Year.  The award is in recognition of the chapter’s contributions in the areas of community outreach, student outreach and assistance, professional development, and national involvement.  The award along with the Student Chapter Awards will be presented on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 5:00 pm during the General Membership Meeting at the society’s 38th Annual Symposium.  The Symposium is being held in Las Vegas, Nevada at the historic Riviera Hotel and Casino.

The MAES Boston Professional Chapter, under the leadership of Bob Martinez, has embarked on a variety of programs in the greater-Boston area including the Latino Science and Engineering Awards Celebration which attracted a variety of notable Latinos in STEM including Franklin Chang-Diaz, the first Latino Astronaut.  Their recognition of excellence along with a variety of networking events bringing together members of SACNAS, SHPE, and MAES have resulted in a robust network of support for Latinos in the New England Area.  This is further evidenced by the founding and resurgence of six MAES student chapters which are all operational.

Antonio de la Serna, an engineer with Draper Laboratory and MAES Region 4 Vice President was quoted as saying, “Congratulations for this national achievement.  You (Bob) and the chapter’s dynamic team has brought much honor to MAES Region 4!”
